Colour — the biggest driver
Colour accounts for more of a blue sapphire’s value than any other factor. Vivid, even “royal” and “cornflower” blues command the strongest premiums; stones that look grey, inky or washed-out are worth far less.
Treatment
An unheated sapphire of fine colour can be worth substantially more than a heated stone of similar appearance. Treatment status, confirmed on a report, is a major price lever.
Clarity, cut and carat
Eye-clean clarity, a precise cut that returns light evenly, and larger carat weight all add value. Price per carat tends to jump at key size thresholds.
Why two stones differ so much
Because these factors multiply together, two one-carat sapphires can differ in price many times over. Always compare colour, treatment and certification — not just weight.
